EMFs Damage DNA

What is DNA?

DNA stands for DeoxyriboNucleic Acid. It is a molecule composed of two chains that coil around each other to form a double helix carrying the genetic instructions used in the growth, development, functioning, and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses.  Every cell in our body contains a nucleus within which our DNA resides. Every cell has the complete blueprint for our body.


There are 4 nucleotides, adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. They pair up - adenine with thymine and cytosine with guanine - with pairs forming what is often portrayed like the rungs of a ladder, joined by a sugar phosphate backbone.  The sequence of nucleotides forms a code that controls protein construction, cell division and reproduction and cell death and much more. It is crucial to how we function and therefore our health. 

As you might imagine, the structure of our DNA and every process involved with it is highly complex. Interference in how our DNA functions can have major implications depending on how it is adversely affected.  Water plays a crucial role in stabilising the coils of DNA that make up our chromosomes.  Adverse interference with this water will destabilise our DNA.

Scientists have identified specific coding sequence areas called genes within the DNA that code for a certain proteins and individual characteristics.


Other molecules are closely associated with DNA which are termed epigenetic because they do not themselves code, but are crucially involved in gene expression.  Certain epigenetic markers have been identified that can tell us how our DNA is functioning.

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, including our X/Y pair which determines our gender.

EMF Safety Levels are Inadequate

The SAR scale used to determine officially safe levels of EMF radiation has been proven beyond doubt to offer no real protection against the harm that EMFs can cause. There is significant evidence to indicate that EMFs do not have to create a thermal effect (ie generate heat) in order for damage to occur. This damage can be seen in changes to various epigenetic markers such as Heat Shock Protein (hsp70) that increases as a result of exposure.


Professor Martin Pall from Washington State University has determined the pathway (below) by which EMFs can cause this damage.

It all stems from disruption of the Voltage-Gated Calcium Channels (VGCCs) in our cells that sets off a cascade of reactions and events that results in chronic inflammation.

Chronic inflammation is the basis for many different diseases that are more commonly named according to where in the body they occur rather than what actually causes them. Any diseases that ends in “itis” means there is an inflammatory component such as osteoarthritis, cystitis etc, yet inflammation is also the background of auto-immune diseases, cancer and other serious illnesses.


In a recent document that Professor Pall submitted to EU Commissioners calling for independent safety research into microwave transmissions prior to 5G being rolled out, he identified 8 main areas where EMFs cause harm. From his own and others' research he has established that they...

  1. Attack our nervous systems including our brains leading to widespread neurological and neuropsychiatric effects and possibly many other effects.
  2. Attack our endocrine (hormonal) systems. To put this in this context, the main things that make us functionally different from single celled creatures are our nervous system and our endocrine systems. Thus the consequences of the disruption of these two regulatory systems is immense, such that it is a travesty to ignore these warnings.
  3. Produce oxidative stress and free radical damage, which have central roles in essentially all chronic diseases.
  4. Attack the DNA of our cells, producing single strand and double strand breaks in cellular DNA and oxidized bases in our cellular DNA. These in turn produce cancer and also mutations in germ line cells which produce mutations in future generations.
  5. Produce elevated levels of apoptosis (programmed cell death), events especially important in causing both neurodegenerative diseases and infertility.
  6. Lower male and female fertility, lower sex hormones, lower libido and increased levels of spontaneous abortion and, as already stated, attack the DNA in sperm cells.
  7. Produce excessive intracellular calcium [Ca2+]i and excessive calcium signalling.
  8. Attack the cells of our bodies to cause cancer. Such attacks are thought to act via 15 different mechanisms during cancer causation.

DNA Damage Effects Future Generations

As Professor Pall says in point 4, the implications of germ cell line mutations extend well beyond our own health to future generations. Maximal DNA health is of course imperative for its correct expression which determines protein/enzyme production, cell replication for growth and repair and of course cell apoptosis (cell death) that enables recycling of the cellular components. Cancer (also mentioned specifically in point 8) can be considered to be the result of failure of normal cell apoptosis and the proliferation of these malfunctioning cells that have extended beyond their proper functional life.

Fertility (Point 6) is of considerable importance earlier in our adult lives, but progressively later as people leave it longer before having children. Girls are born with their full compliment of eggs, which makes EMF exposure in utero of significant importance given that research has shown that stem cells are considerably more vulnerable to damage than adult differentiated cells.


Men generate sperm throughout their fertile life, however with the external anatomical situation of testes and their high water content, sperm are also very vulnerable to EMF damage, especially when mobile phones are so frequently carried in front pockets. Nobody wants to pass on unnecessary DNA mutations that may not only reduce fertility, but increase the risk of miscarriage and congenital conditions.

Being practical and realistic, EMFs are not going to go away however much lobby groups try to hold back 5G and Smart meters etc. There are many political and economic reasons why it isn't going to happen unless the whole world puts a stop to it in agreement and the chances of that are miniscule.  Many people, especially the younger generations who have not known life without mobile phones, tablets and laptops etc would go into meltdown if they cannot stay in contact 24/7 and have immediate access to information!!


Further research is required and industry has been successful in preventing changes to legislation on a par that brings back memories of the suppression of the dangers of tobacco and asbestos.

The CMO Solution

Concurrent exposure with CMO technology significantly reduced the increase in hsp70 production.
